A little bit of information about burnouts. Burnouts are caused by smoking your pipe to hot. Press the bowl gentle to your cheek and if it's too hot, place the pipe down and relight after it cools. Never use a torch flame. Use either a match or soft flame pipe lighter to light your pipe. Using a torch flame can burn the briar inside the bowl.
To break in your pipe, smoke it slow for the first dozen or so bowls. If you are smoking outside and it's windy, I suggest purchase a clip on screen cap. Also another prevention to avoid a burnout. Do not ream your pipe to the briar. Leave enough carbon to thickness of a dime.
If you suspect a burnout I suggest you either call me or e-mail and I could suggest how to save your pipe. So enjoy your pipe in the intent it was made.
